The problem of delegation is that it requires you to let go when you’re used to (and enjoy being) the one in control. You don’t have to be a “Type A” personality to be convinced that your way is the right way. I mean, your way IS the right way!

To be honest, it gives us a lot of security to feel that things are being done the right way, and the only way to be sure of that is to do it ourselves. If we outsource a task, it may not get done the way we prefer! Is that okay? Can we handle it?

Let Go! Accept Help!In my everyday life, for a long time, I did all of the laundry folding. If my husband folded, I would have to re-fold, anyway, because he didn’t do it right, so why waste his time and mine? Why not just do it myself to begin with.

That, my friends, was before I had a child and a business.

Here’s the thing: I don’t have TIME anymore to worry about how my t-shirts are folded. I don’t care! All I care about is that it gets done and the clothes fit in my closet, that I have clean clothes, and that I can see/use my couch. That’s it.

In business, I have big fish to fry and too much to worry about to care whether certain things get done exactly the way I would do it myself. If I’m doing it myself, I’m going to spend time on it and be meticulous and perfect. That’s how I am. That’s probably how you are. So I make sure that the things I spend my time doing perfectly are things that matter.

Do I delegate? YES!! I practice what I preach, and I have my very own awesome Virtual Assistant who helps me out!

By the way, she’s amazing. Did I mention that? Jeaneen may not do things exactly as I would, but that does not make her work lower quality, and it surely doesn’t hurt my business. Rather, it helps my business immensely because I am free to focus on other things. I partner with her because she values her work, and I know that she will complete tasks well. It doesn’t matter exactly how my t-shirt gets folded as long as it’s folded.

How much is your time worth?

So, what about you? Do you delegate? Do some things just need to happen and get done without you needing to personally attend to them? What might happen? Might you experience a much-needed reduction in anxiety? Might you get to spend some more time with your family? Might you get to take on some more paying clients? Do you have bigger and better issues to tackle besides whether your newsletter blurb shortened a paragraph this way instead of that way? Think about it!

Tell me in a comment below: what would you outsource if you could?
